Christopher Rownes

Hi Chris, Many thanks for asking me to contribute to this fantastic resource. There is already a wealth of excellent advice here from some of my favourite angling writers. I’m based in Ireland and fish mostly rivers for wild brown trout. My approach to dry fly fishing could be largely described as ‘walking and stalking’ fish. Weather and water conditions obviously play a huge part in the outcome with dry fly fishing for trout. I like warm settled weather and little wind for most dry fly fishing, otherwise I’m streamer fishing. My experience is not limited to Ireland. I have been to New Zealand for extended periods of time,Tasmania, Slovenia many times, Chile and Argentina and my favourite, Iceland. So a good mix of native and non native fisheries.

This quiet sport still takes us to beautiful places and allows us to connect with nature. Trout hunting with a fly rod challenges us to physically and mentally enter a world where sophisticated prey holds the advantage. To become absorbed into the complexities of this gentle endeavor is the total escape.
